Learning How to Brave the Wilderness, based on Brene Brown's New Book

By Dr. Jim Turrell

January is the month of new beginnings. It is a spiritual excuse to reframe and reshape our sense of life, prosperity, and peace. Every one of us live in a Universe that is Whole, Perfect and Complete. No need to reinvent your life. Simply live it where you found it and walk into the new view of life and goodness.

To help explore the phenomena of our daily lives we must commit to living a moment-to-moment consciousness of acceptance and good will. In my first talk, I will reveal some of Brené Brown’s wonderful insight on from her new book on, Braving the Wilderness. In fact my first topic is Braving the Wilderness of Belonging. I will help you write a new permission slip to be yourself; to explore your authentic and imperfect world. This will guide you in remembering that the world has no intention to be perfect. Intention is up to you, not the world.

The second great lesson will come from a talk on, Braving the Wilderness of Spiritual Crisis. You cannot avoid Spiritual Crisis. Without crisis, you don’t have the opportunity to let go of old beliefs and habits that block your good.  Society sorts itself it into groups that work to avoid spiritual crisis. The fear of reaching out and the inner pain so frequently ignored becomes the hate and anger we inflict and from which we become inflicted.

The third Sunday will be a walk about around the topic of Braving the Wilderness of Speaking Truth to Bull Shit. Brené refuses to live in a box of appropriate behavior. She is blunt and to the point about how to hold hands with strangers and the inextricable connection, we have with our Divine Creator. The ministry of God’s Divine Presence is everyone’s responsibility.

Then, at last, we come to, Braving the Wilderness with a Strong Back, Soft Front and a Wild Heart. One can only avoid the necessity of Boundaries, Reliability, and Accountability. As Brené states it, “True belonging doesn’t require you to change who you are, it requires you to be who you are. So many miss the truth that No one belongs here more that you. We’re going to have a lot of fun and may a few tears. In the end, for those who come each Sunday, you will discover the mindful advantage of what is means to be Vulnerable enough to brave the wilderness.
